If you’ve got a product that’s in any way sexy, you can be assured it’ll be one of the top subjects for discussion when you’re talking to journalists.
Take Torotrak, for instance. The Leyland-based company develops and manufactures infinitely variable transmission systems for all types of vehicles.
There’s lots of exciting stuff happening at the company; in December, Torotrak signed two agreements with a “major European truck and bus manufacturer” that have a combined value in excess of £7m. A licence agreement with India’s Tata Motors is in the final stages of approval by the Indian government.
But when the company’s interim management statement was released last week, what did all the journalists want to talk about when they spoke to FD Jeremy Deering?
That’s easy: the work Torotrak is doing with a “major Formula 1 team”, Deering says.
