BT offers cheaper WiFi abroad

If you’re concerned about the cost of using your mobile or accessing data while abroad, BT Openzone reckons it’s got the product for you.

If you’re concerned about the cost of using your mobile or accessing data while abroad, BT Openzone reckons it’s got the product for you.

BT has launched what it tells us are the world’s first international WiFi travel vouchers.

According to BT, users of the vouchers will be able to access data and make voice calls via thousands of hotspots globally quicker and cheaper than via international roaming with GPRS, 3G and GSM.

You can get 500 minutes for £28 in the US and for £40 in Europe. That averages out to be 5.6p a minute and 8p a minute respectively.

If we're talking data, BT says the cost of downloads can be reduced to around 12p per megabyte in the Americas and 16p in Europe.
