A DIY modelling system

When Warren Partners FD Karen Jones couldn’t find an off-the-shelf modelling system she liked, she created her own system for the Cheshire-based headhunting firm.

“I trained with Price Waterhouse, worked with Ernst & Young and have very good Excel spreadsheet skills.

"When I looked at packages it was easier to have a bespoke one, which I’ve tailored over the years,” she says.

The system links with the Sage accounting software packages the company uses for processes such as payroll. “For us, a bespoke system works great. That’s just the way we do it.”

Jones is clearly a woman who likes to keep her house in order. “We’ve got very good financial systems and forecasting procedures in place. We get management accounts ten days from month-end.

“We have a tracker for sales revenue going forward and good control of overheads. It’s good house keeping, basically.”
