Is being FD of a UK plc a thankless task?

Ocado finance director Jason Gissing is adamant the company will not float while he’s in charge of the finance team.

Speaking to the Guardian, Gissing says floating the company would be the worst thing Ocado could do.

He says: “I am finance director and marketing director and it is a thankless task to be finance director of a public company in the UK. One day it will float, but I won't be the finance director."

They’re strong words from the outspoken FD but is he onto something?

Ian Paterson Brown, the former FD of F&C Asset Management, has also had some choice things to say about life at the top of the finance tree, describing it as a “lonely job”.
