Capital impact means FD needs IR role
Monday, 29th October 2007 by Catherine Woods
Morrisons FD Richard Pennycook views IR as the function handling the key interface between shareholders and upper management.
“IR is a very important function for any large public company,” he says.
Pennycook is a key part of the IR team at Morrisons and takes part in meetings with shareholders, particularly around results time.
He feels it’s an important task. “I think what you can’t escape is in a public company, the FD has a major role to play in IR.
"Ultimately, one of the FD’s jobs is to manage and minimise the cost of capital in the business. Effective IR helps to do that so the FD needs to be involved.”
And let's not forget the financials. “A big part of the IR challenge is around the financial performance of the business and that’s something that the FD is probably best placed to articulate to the market.”
