Cloud cover lingers over City
by Catherine Woods - Tuesday, 25th March 2008 -
I was in Egypt for the last 10 days and I’m pleased to say I’ve returned with some much-needed colour.
(Stay with me, readers. This blog isn’t just about my tan. There is a point.)
The sun shone every day of the break, providing respite from the cold of England and putting me in a perpetually good mood (the exception being the day I suffered from severe Cairo belly). It was a mood so sunny that I rejoiced in the sleet and snow that accompanied my journey from Heathrow to home. In short, I returned on a sunshine high only to be met with…
….continuing doom and gloom about the UK economy.
Here’s a selection of the headlines:
• City faces loss of 30,000 jobs in a year of bloodlett8ing
• CBI cuts growth forecast to 1.8 per cent
• Mining stocks dive
• Market falls adds £40bn to UK pensions deficit• 3i quits early-stage investment
*Sigh*
Back to reality...
